Benefits of Pellet Stoves Over Wood Stoves

Pellet stoves make low-smoke and are easy on the environment, but what exactly makes them different from wood burning stoves?

Wood pellet stoves are generally smaller, and the bags of pellets are about the size of a bag of mulch. This makes pellets easy to store and transport. Pellet stoves are also easy to use; you just fill the stove’s hopper with pellets and push the igniter to start the fire. Depending on the size of your stove’s hopper, it may only need to be loaded once a day.
 
The fire is contained in a heat box inside the pellet stove so there is a minimum of smoke. This also keeps the outside of the stove cool. Pellets create considerably less ash than firewood and they also create less creosote, which is the most common cause of chimney fires.
 
Wood pellets are made from recycled materials and they have very low moisture content. Because they are so dry, pellets burn hotter and cleaner than wood burning stoves. Wood pellet stoves also emit fewer pollutants than traditional wood fireplaces. Many environmentalists also consider pellet stoves to be carbon neutral. Wood pellets are also inexpensive. You can purchase them in small quantities, versus the costs of purchasing a cord of firewood, or you can buy them by the ton.
